Space Wars is a sci-fi shooter-themed slot from NetEnt that trades a traditional free spins bonus for a single, constantly repeating mechanic. Set aboard an alien spacecraft with a laser-blasting soundtrack, it plays on an unusually tall 5-reel, 4-row grid with 40 fixed paylines, and every win keeps the action going without costing an extra spin.

Space Wars runs on what NetEnt calls Cloning Pod Respins: any winning combination triggers a free respin, and the winning alien symbol is stored in the Cloning Pod and blasted back onto the reels as stacks of that same symbol for the respin. If the respin produces another win, the cycle repeats; if not, play returns to normal paid spins. There’s no separate scatter-triggered free spins mode or bonus round — the Cloning Pod is the entire bonus structure, which keeps the pace fast since a hot streak can chain several free respins in a row.
Pros
- Every win triggers a free respin with cloned stacked symbols at no extra cost
- Tall 5×4 grid with 40 fixed paylines gives more active lines than standard 3-row slots
- Medium volatility with a 1,000x bet max win offers a reasonable ceiling
- Fast pace since Cloning Pod Respins can chain multiple times in a row
Cons
- No traditional free spins bonus for players who prefer that structure
- Cloning Pod Respins stop as soon as a respin doesn’t produce a win
- Sci-fi theme and 4-row grid feel dated next to newer space-themed releases
